2017 Toyota Avalon Owner's Manual
The Avalon Hybrid interior has not a single common detail with its predecessor. If to look closely at the left well on the dashboard, instead of usual tachometer, one can see only inherent to hybrid versions bars, which inform the driver about what mode the engine power is used and whether the battery is charging. At the head of the central console, which resembles more of a slide for jumps, is the screen of the multimedia system, which now (for the first time on Toyota) supports Apple CarPlay. At the bottom of the console there is a niche with wireless charging for a smartphone. However, materials have also become much higher. Now here it is possible to find both real leather and real inserts made of wood and aluminum.
Ten airbags and the system Toyota Safety Sense are responsible for safety in the automobile, which includes: adaptive cruise, the warning system of collision with recognition of a pedestrian, the system of tracing for road markings. Besides, fully LED headlights with automatic switching of high beam are already available in base.
It is also worth mentioning that the fifth generation is built on a new front-wheel drive platform GA-K (a kind of TNGA), and due to such transition the Avalon has got lower center of gravity, which should have a positive effect on the steering of the car. Besides, adaptive suspension is available as an option.
And finally, we got to the most important distinctive feature of the “green” version. This is the power plant consisting of petrol atmospheric engine with a volume of 2.5-liter with a high compression ratio of 14:1, and electric motor, the total capacity of which is 218 “horses”. As before, the hybrid is equipped with an electromechanical variator (eCVT).
