Toyota Camry – the eighth generation of the model debuted in January 2017 at the Detroit Motor Show, and production of production vehicles was launched in June of the same year. The new iteration of the sedan is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, which also underpins the Prius hybrid family and the C-HR compact crossover.

The new Toyota Camry appeared in UK Toyota dealerships in January 2018. The sedan is available in 4 trim levels in our market: Comfort, Elegance, Prestige and Premium. The car is available with a 2.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine with 181 litres (231 Nm) and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Comfort, Elegance and Prestige trim levels are equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen multimedia system with 6 speakers, while the top-of-the-line model has an 8-inch screen and JBL 9-speaker sound system. The car is equipped by default with LED headlights with washers and LED fog lights, cruise control, parking sensors and a rear view camera, heated front seats, climate control and other equipment.

In October 2018, Toyota presented a hybrid version of the Camry sedan at the Paris Motor Show. Externally, this modification can be distinguished by the brand’s logos with a blue accent, and internally by the dashboard with an indicator of the power unit’s operating modes located in place of the tachometer. Official sales of the hybrid Camry in our market were announced in May 2019.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid XV70 is equipped with a powertrain that is also found on the petrol-electric version of the RAV4 crossover. The 2.5-litre A25A-FXS petrol “atmospheric” (178 hp, 221 Nm) is complemented by an electric motor (120 hp, 202 Nm), a 6.5 Ah nickel-metal hydride battery. The total power of the unit is 218 hp, this sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 180 km/h. The declared petrol consumption in the combined cycle is 4.3/4.4 litres per hundred.

In UK, the seventieth Camry with a hybrid system is available in the top Premium trim, which is slightly different from a petrol Camry with the same equipment. In particular, the door handles are painted in the body colour (in the non-hybrid version, they are chrome), the centre console has a drive mode switch, rear cross-traffic assist, electric steering column, wireless charging for a smartphone, electric front seat adjustment and a projection display. At the same time, the road sign recognition system and heated second-row seats were excluded from the package.

Overall dimensions of the Toyota Camry
length: 4885 mm, width: 1840 mm, height: 1445 mm, ground clearance: 155 mm, base: 2825 mm
